About Musqueam

We are traditional hən̓q̓əmin̓əm̓ speaking people. Today, we are a strong, growing community of over 1,300 members. We live on a small portion of our traditional territory, known as the Musqueam Indian Reserve, located south of Marine Drive near the mouth of the Fraser River. The name Musqueam relates back to the River Plant, the name of the plant is məθkʷəy̓. There is a story that has been passed on from generation to generation that explains how we became known as the xʷməθkʷəy̓əm (Musqueam) - People of the River Plant. We have always moved throughout our territory using the resources it provides for fishing, hunting, trapping and gathering. We remain distinct and our cultural practices are strong, despite the devastating impacts of residential schools, colonial laws banning our ceremonies, and other attempts to assimilate our people. Our lands and waters continue to support our cultural and economic practices while serving as a source of knowledge and memory, encoded with our teachings and laws. Position Summary:


Working within the Archives and Research Department and reporting to the Records Manager, the Records and Information Management Policy Analyst is responsible for supporting the creation and implementation of information governance policies within MIB. They are tasked with analysing current best practices among Canadian bodies, such as OIPC (Office of the Information and Privacy Commissioner for British Columbia), and ensuring that information governance and access to information practices reflect current federal, provincial, and national requirements of these polices, in addition to MIB polices. The Records and Information Management Policy Analyst will also work closely with Archives and Records staff, MIB’s Legal department, and IT to enact processes that best benefit the Band during on and off-boarding, litigation, and any significant periods of technological change.  



  • Review and suggest revisions to active and draft MIB policies related to recordkeeping, access to information, privacy, and information governance policies.
  • Advise on records and disposition policies across departments;
  • Create new MIB information governance policies as directed by the Records Manager;
  • Research key policies related to: Information Governance, Health Informatics, Digital informatics, and Indigenous Knowledge management;
  • Perform risk assessments;
  • Liaise with Legal team to keep records management policies up-to-date;
  • Support the Records Manager in the implementation of metadata standards that coincide with legal requirements of electronic recordkeeping;
  • Research and apply current standards in the fields of information governance and Indigenous information governance to existing policy materials;
  • Liaise with IT to uphold privacy and access to information policies as they pertain to encryption;
  • Work with the Records Manager to develop secure records recovery practices for off boarding staff at MIB;
  • Other tasks, as needed.

Job Knowledge:

  • Technical knowledge of Freedom of Information Act, Protection of Privacy Act, and ISO standards;
  • Working knowledge of Recordkeeping Principles
  • Specific knowledge of ISO/IEC 27001, 27004, 27005, 27014, or similar;
  • A minimum of 3-5 years of First Nations or Indigenous governance knowledge management OR
  • 1-3 years of working in a federal, municipal, or provincial government setting;
  • Master’s degree in: Information Science, Library and Information Science, Archival Science, Public Policy, Public Administration, Cybersecurity, First Nations Studies, Law; or a combination of education and experience relating to: information technology management, policy development, intergovernmental affairs, knowledge management, ombudsperson or similar;
  • A minimum of 1-3 years of policy development and implementation in the above fields;
  • Working knowledge of First Nations Principles of OCAP is an asset;
  • Familiarity with Musqueam Indian Band, its history and cultural practices is preferred;
  • ARMA, CRM, or BCIP certification is preferred;
  • IGP certification is an asset;
  • FOIPPA Foundations training is an asset



Working Conditions:

  • Work is performed in an office environment;
  • Some remote work may be approved by the Archives and Records Manager;
  • Work deals with bulk materials up to 18kg
