Senior Subrogation Claims Representative

The Senior Subrogation Specialist will be responsible for all recovery activities of Heartland Mutual Insurance. This position will be available in either Berwick, Nova Scotia or Waterloo, Ontario.

What you will do...

• Manages a caseload of subrogation and recovery files for Heartland with goal of maximizing the recovery potential on each case file
• Possesses a thorough understanding of liability and legal process in order to manage caseload of legal claims recovery files.
• Co-ordinates any necessary investigation through retention of field adjusters, experts, reconstruction engineers, etc. to maximize the chances of successful recovery against responsible parties.
• Engages in settlement negotiations and will often be required to attend settlement meetings, private mediations and/or pre-trials.
• Provide training and information to claims department on recovery techniques, investigation of claims and legal decisions that impact insurance recovery process.
• Maintains oversight of active claims that have recovery potential during initial claims investigation process.
• Updates reserving and manages payments in accordance with company guidelines.

What you will bring...

• Possesses a thorough understanding of insurance recovery processes, techniques and insurance legislation relative to the management of subrogation claims.
• Has knowledge and understanding of litigation process as it relates to recovery actions.
• Has ability to negotiate with Third Parties, insurance adjusters and legal counsel.
• Has knowledge of latest techniques to locate responsible parties, develop successful claim recovery case file and using latest technology to maximize recovery efforts.
• Previous subrogation experience in insurance field an asset.
• Experience and knowledge in the insurance litigation process required.
