Purpose of the role:

To provide administrative support to the Legal Talent and Diversity department by supporting the full scope of the student program and associate program as well as DEI initiatives within the Firm.


Assistant, Legal Talent and Diversity

Reports To: 

Director, Legal Talent and Diversity

Duties and Responsibilities:

In accordance with the policies of Burnet, Duckworth & Palmer LLP, the Assistant, Legal Talent and Diversity has the responsibility to complete the following duties:


  • Provide administrative support to the Legal Talent and Diversity team;
  • Scan, quality check, and file employee record information;
  • Maintain and update talent records and files;
  • Retrieve data from Information Systems including DayForce and viDesktop;
  • Draft letters, forms, reports and other documents as needed;
  • Administration of Legal Talent and Diversity programs;
  • Administer internal accounting processes for items under DEI and Legal Talent budgets, such as invoice payments and reimbursement submissions under such budgets;
  • Assist in coordinating and planning meetings, training sessions, travel, and events; and
  • Data entry.


Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion

  • Prepare agendas, calendar invites, minutes, and other administrative items for DEI Committee and Subcommittee meetings;
  • Coordinate and attend DEI Committee initiatives, events, meetings and training sessions;
  • Prepare documents, communications, newsletters, and other content in conjunction with DEI Committee;
  • Maintain DEI Portal page materials and events in Firm portal calendar(s); and
  • Project manage DEI initiatives as assigned.

Student Recruitment and Programs

  • Assist Legal Talent Specialist and Student Hiring Committee with administration of 1L and 2L recruits, such as pulling application packages and booking interviews;
  • Assist Legal Talent Specialist in administering Summer and Articling Law Student programing, including onboarding, professional development initiatives, reviews, rotation, and bar call celebrations;
  • Administer registration and coordinate travel, events, dinners, etc. for law student On Campus Interviews; and
  • Facilitate agendas, materials, bookings, and take minutes for Student Committee meetings.

Associate Programs

  • Assist Legal Talent Specialist with administration of the annual review and compensation process;
  • Assist in lateral onboarding and integration initiatives;
  • Facilitate planning and execution of professional development sessions and initiatives; and
  • Other duties and responsibilities as required.

Education & Qualifications:

  • Post-secondary education credential in administration, legal assistance, or similar; and
  • Experience in a Legal or Professional Services firm preferred.
