Division: Enercare Home and Commercial Services 

Location: Hybrid - Birchmount (Markham) & Remote  



The Director, Product Development is responsible for building the future product roadmap for Enercare. You will help shape the future of home services across heating, cooling, water treatment and other growth areas. You will understand and be passionate about the path to net-zero and the transition to electric-powered, connected, resilient homes. You will be energized by developing a product line up that has a more material impact on greenhouse gas emissions than any other human activity.  


You will have accountability for building a strategy, and planning, forecasting, and executing the introduction of new residential products and the evolution of existing products across Enercare’s Home Services division. You will chair cross-functional work teams across Marketing, Sales, Field, Operations, Marketing Communications and Supply Chain and will work externally with existing and new vendor partners. The Product Development team will translate their knowledge of the Home Services segment into a product roadmap that will nurture and grow Enercare’s segment leadership. You will motivate and challenge their team to prioritize customer intimacy, the development of unique value propositions and a continued competitive advantage as a strategy to deliver against the short- and long-term business plan. This position is supported by the Vice President of Marketing & Product Development and oversees a growing team of product development professionals. 


Your efforts and decisions will have a direct and immediate impact on the company’s success. This position oversees product development across all our existing portfolios including HVAC, Water Heating and Treatment, Maintenance and Protection Plans, Electrical and Plumbing Services and our Smarter Home portfolio. In addition, you identify growth areas in an industry undergoing massive shifts in technology and competition. A passion for and understanding of clean technologies, coupled with a desire to learn, lead, drive change and win is a must.

Key Responsibilities: 

  • Manage, challenge and develop a growing team of product development professionals 
  • Develop a forward-looking product roadmap including product selection, market evaluation, business case development and forecasting across line extensions and net new products 
  • Chair the New Product Introduction (NPI) committee, intaking and evaluating new product opportunities 
  • Build annual and quarterly NPI strategy and execution plans 
  • Manage existing and lead new vendor selection 
  • Partner with the Marketing team to develop pricing and offer strategies 
  • Partner with internal groups such as marketing, operations, training and marketing communications to build go-to-market plans 
  • Lead the development of value propositions and customer journey mapping 
  • Participate in making Enercare a great place to work by actively participating in the development of a progressive corporate culture

Desired Qualifications: 

  • At least 10 years’ experience in a product marketing role 
  • At least 5 years’ experience managing a successful team 
  • Previous experience working in an innovation team or incubator (you thrive in white space) 
  • Expert level project management skills, specific to new product development process and implementing Stage Gate processes, with a PMP certification being an asset 
  • High technical proficiency, with the ability to quickly grasp technical concepts 
  • Strong financial acumen, specific to the development of business cases 
  • Experience in home services, utilities or energy sector being an asset 
  • Exceptional verbal & written communication and presentation skills to multiple audience types, including Senior-level executives and field teams. 
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate with diverse cross-functional teams to achieve results
